KUCHING: One million visitors are being expected to throng the three-week Kuching Food Festival this year.

Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng is upbeat about hitting the target given the public’s overwhelming response from the first day of the festival.

“This festival is supposed to start at 6pm daily but the people start coming in as early as 4pm.

“Moreover, thanks to the great weather, we are able to have these many visitors here. I hope this kind of weather will continue for the next 21 days.

“Whatever it is, this kind of response from the visitors here is a good sign to us after being hit by the pandemic for more than two years,” he said to New Sarawak Tribune at the festival.

But in the same breath he called on the public to stay vigilant when attending the festival.

He said that although the events is being held in an open space, visitors should wear their face mask when they walk around and always keep their social distance.

“I would also like to remind the public to keep their own hygiene by sanitising or washing your hands frequently.

“Although this is the long awaited festival after two years, we know that there might be things that we are lacking here and there.

“That is why I hope the public can bear with our shortcomings as we are trying our best to satisfy all of our visitors,” he added.

The Kuching Food Festival 2022 is making a comeback this year from July 29 until Aug 21.
