KUCHING: Kuching is all set to receive the arrival of dozens of global figures and representatives to the three-day International Summit on Peace from Wednesday.

Junior Chamber International (JCI) is partnering with Sarawak to convene the summit, which will focus on peacemaking efforts around the world and commit participants to a resolution in order to further the cause of world peace.

JCI secretary general Arrey Obenson said the International Summit on Peace would provide an international platform for dialogue, and hoped to inspire people around the world to come together and work towards long-term peace.

“The summit comes at a time of heightened global tensions, with increased volatility in the Middle East and on the Korean Peninsula.

““We are extremely proud to partner with the state of Sarawak, one of the most astonishingly diverse and peaceful places in Southeast Asia to create a forum to work towards that most elusive but essential goal - world peace,” he said yesterday.

Others are senior representatives from Al Jazeera+, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and peacemaking organisations around the world.

He said JCI has worked for over 100 years to bring young citizens together and showed that with dialogue and hard work, anything was possible.

“Our International Summit on Peace hopes to create a legacy of togetherness and propose innovative policies and methods which civil society can put into practice for world peace,” he added.
