MUKAH: A 22-year-old man was arrested on Thursday (Oct 14) for possessing 0.50g of syabu (methamphetamine) valued at about RM150.

The suspect, who works as a labourer, was nabbed at a house in Jalan Sibu-Selangau.

Mukah OCPD DSP Muhamad Rizal Alias said a police team raided the unnumbered house on Thursday at about 3pm.

The suspect had two small straw tubes and a small plastic packet containing crystalline substance, in the right pocket of his shorts.

“He was brought to the police station for further investigation, and initial urine test found that he was positive for drugs,” DSP Rizal said on Friday (Oct 15).

Investigation also found that the suspect had been involved in drug abuse activities since 2015, and his supply was obtained from a man identified as ‘Gaya’ in the Selangau area.

The suspect last obtained his supply on Oct 12.

He is currently in police custody pending application for a remand order by the investigation officer on Friday.

The case is being investigated under Section 12(2) and 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act, 1952.

If convicted under Section 12(2), the suspect would be sentenced to not more than five years in jail or fined not more than RM100,000, or both under Section 12(3) of the Act.

If convicted under Section 15(1)(a), the sentence would be not more than two years in jail or a fine of not more than RM5,000 and put under police surveillance for not less than two years and not more than three years.
