SIBU: Rhana Kirisna Killy felt on top of the world when receiving her Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) result slip yesterday.
Rhana Kirisna, 17, had only expected to score 7As, but was surprised to achieve 9As.
She is among nine students from SMK St Elizabeth to score 9As.
“As the eldest, it is my responsibility to show a good example to my siblings. I also hope to be able to provide a better life for my family,” said the daughter of a labourer when met at the school here yesterday.
Rhana Kirisna’s mother, Kelang Lawan, 40, who was also present at the school said the success of her daughter who aspired to become a school counsellor was achieved as a result of the dedication of the school’s teaching staff.
“We could not afford to send our daughter for tuition, so she had to study on her own. We solely depended on the dedication of the educators there to teach her.
“My husband, Killy Atang, 45, is a labourer who does not have a fixed income. If it rains, he cannot do work. Thus, I hope Rhana can change the fate of our family someday,” said the housewife who hails from Sungai Mujong, Kapit.
Meanwhile, 17 students scored 11As, 10As (12 students), 8As (13) and 7As (nine).
SMK St Elizabeth, which is the fourth best school in Sarawak for SPM, is also made proud of the outstanding performances of Evelyn Lau Ming Yii who scored 11A+s and Grace Tang Ai (10A+s).
