SARATOK: Reaching out to longhouse communities door-to-door is an effort to strengthen the bond between leaders and the people.

Kalaka assemblyman, Mohamad Duri, said that this approach enables elected representatives to directly listen to the concerns of the people.

While some may perceive this practice as irrelevant, Mohamad said it holds great interpersonal value as it provides an opportunity to celebrate together, exchange greetings, inquire about each other’s well-being, and lend an ear to any grievances that may arise.

“By meeting longhouse communities door-to-door, we can forge closer ties,” said Mohamad. This practice benefits not only elected representatives but also community leaders, government agencies, and party officials.

Mohamad said this to Suara Sarawak after attending the Gawai Dayak invitation at Rumah Panjang Brues Michael Gomes in Sungai Antu here recently.

Accompanied by his wife, Norlida Sharkawi, Mohamad received a warm welcome by the melodious sounds of traditional music, Tabuh.

“Their respectful and organised reception is evidence of their appreciation for our presence,” said Mohamad.
