TATAU: The people can generate lucrative income through agriculture, said Minister in the Chief Minister’s Department (Integrity and Ombudsman) Datuk Talib Zulpilip.

He stated that agriculture was an important industry because of its role in development and creating employment opportunities while increasing the income of farmers.

“Farmers should therefore strive to carry out commercial farming and not just to have enough to eat for oneself and one’s family.

“This is because agriculture can have a big impact on our income, besides having a wide demand in the market, both from within and outside the country,” he said when officiating at the closing of an Agriculture Community Outreach (AgriCOP) programme at Rumah Vincent Unjie, Sungai Semanok here yesterday.

Talib who is also Jepak assemblyman said the government encouraged farmers to use modern technology which guaranteed higher produce and quality crops.

He hoped that the Agriculture Facilitation Fund (AFF) project carried out in the Jepak constituency, would have a positive impact on the local farmers.

“I understand that this AgriCop programme will be held as a roadshow at several other places in the (Jepak) constituency,” he said while thanking the Agriculture Department for continuing to provide the best service and reach out to the people, especially farmers in Jepak.
