KUCHING: What is the police’s most important job? To the new Kuching District police chief, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Awang Din Awang Gani, it is to maintain law and order.

Awang Din had his new duties officially handed over to him yesterday during a ceremony at Kuching District police headquarters at Jln Simpang Tiga.

He has not seen the crime statistics and other data for the district, but right off the bat he wants to ensure that there won’t be any case that the police cannot handle.

A son of Kampung Gersik across the Sarawak River, Awang Din knows that his job is not going to be as he is new to it.

Still he hoped that they force would do their very best to safeguard the district.

“Previously I was in Peninsular Malaysia where I served for 28 years. This is the first time I serve in this district even though I am a local,” he told reporters after the handing over of duties ceremony yesterday.
