SRI AMAN: Works Minister Baru Bian (pic) wants the contractor involved in the construction of the new Sri Aman hospital to make sure that the project is completed by August next year.

He said the RM176 million project which was currently only 44 per cent complete – 16 per cent behind schedule – had been categorised as a “sick project”. “The delay is due to the lack of skilled workers and the contracting firm’s poor management of the project.

“The Public Works Department will closely monitor the progress of this project and take appropriate action,” he said at a press conference after attending a briefing on the matter here, Saturday. The hospital project with 108 beds approved under the 10th Malaysia Plan was aimed at raising the health standard of over 93,000 residents in Sri Aman.

The new hospital will replace the existing one built in 1954 and will also benefit patients from Lubok Antu, Betong and Simunjan. – Bernama
