KUCHING: Stampin incumbent Chong Chieng Jen has asked Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg to make Gabungan Parti Sarawak’s (GPS) intentions clear to Sarawakians on its choice of allies in forming the next federal government.

Chong, the Sarawak DAP chairman, said GPS should come out and tell Sarawakians that they had no intention of working with Umno if that was the case, instead of pulling down the Democratic Action Party’s (DAP) “GPS Menang Zahid Senang” election campaign banners.

“After the banners were put up in public, we have received the strongest objection from GPS candidates but they have yet to come out to tell us that in no uncertain terms, they will not work with Umno, given the past track record.

“Many Sarawakians are worried that GPS will be teaming up with Umno to form the next government, which will free those ‘court cluster’ who are charged in court.

“If they have no intention of working with Umno, just come out and make your statement loud and clear to the Sarawakians,” Chong told the media here today.

“Until today, Abang Jo, Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian and all the GPS candidates have yet to make their stand clear to Sarawakians.

“For now, we will give GPS the benefit of the doubt and I will post them a challenge to come out with a statement to make their stand clear because the people in Sarawak have the right to know the information of the possible move of GPS,” Chong stated.

Chong added that GPS’ manifesto was almost the same to their manifesto in the Sarawak election and Chong believed it could be performed and implemented by the GPS government.

“There is nothing new from their manifesto after the landslide victory from less than a year ago and if they still cannot implement the promises, which will mean they have not lived up to what they have promised.”
