KUCHING: The Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC) is planning to introduce Malaysia as the largest hub for Umrah in the Asian region, aiming to attract Muslim pilgrims from around the world.

Its minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing said the programme would focus on people from key countries such as China, Korea, Japan, Thailand, the Philippines, Indonesia, and other regional countries to attract them to travel to Malaysia and process their visas before performing Umrah.

“Therefore, I will be arranging a meeting with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to discuss this matter and subsequently implement it as soon as possible.

“Meanwhile, my deputy, Khairul Firdaus Akbar Khan, will be fully responsible for managing this matter “ he said in a statement posted on his Facebook, today.

He added that the implementation methods and detailed information regarding this programme will be announced later.

The objective of this programme, he said, is not only to benefit the country’s economic growth but also to promote Malaysia as a progressive and competitive Islamic country in line with the concept of Malaysia Madani.
