Male accused fined RM1k for injuring girl

KUCHING: A local man was sentenced to a fine of RM1,000 or a month’s imprisonment in default by the Sessions Court here yesterday for injuring a female acquaintance.

The accused Zuradi Arabi, 28, pleaded guilty to the charge under Section 323 of the Penal Code which was read in front of Maris Agan.

He was charged with intentionally causing injury to the 20-year-old victim in a hostel at Jalan Song at around 3.10am on November 7.

If convicted, he can be sentenced to imprisonment of up to one year or a fine of up to RM2,000 or both.

According to the facts of the case, during the incident, the accused suddenly came and scolded the complainant, who together with four of her friends, were returning from an entertainment centre. She was scolded for reprimanding the accused’s drunken friend to go up to the hostel.

The accused, who was not satisfied, then hit the complainant with a stick but was stopped by a friend of the complainant.

The accused then acted aggressively and punched the left eye, pushed the body while grabbing the complainant’s right hand and threw her smartphone towards the road.
The prosecution of the case was handled by Prosecuting Officer Inspector Mohd Adzmei Ahmad while the accused was not represented by a lawyer.
