BAU: A man was arrested for possessing drugs in an operation dubbed ‘Ops Tapis’ near here.

Bau district police chief DSP Poge Nyaon said the 35-year-old, who had no prior criminal record, was detained after narcotics policemen stop a vehicle in front of a government office after they spotted that it was driven in a suspicious manner at 11.20pm on Tuesday (July 7).

“Initial checks reveal that the man was clear from any illegal substance following a body check, however, upon further checks on his vehicle, police found a translucent sachet containing crystalline substances believed to be syabu,” he said in a statement on Wednesday (Jul 8).

Poge added that the suspect was also tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine and was being investigated under Section 12 (2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and Section 15(1)(a) of the same Act.

“He was in possession of 0.28g of crystalline substances believed to be methamphetamine with a street value worth RM50,” Poge said adding that a remand order was requested against the self-employed suspect from the court yesterday.
