MIRI: A 51-year-old man lost his life in a three-vehicle collision on Sunday morning (Nov 28) in Sepupok, Niah while four others escaped with injuries.

The collision involved two four-wheel-drive (4WD) vehicles and a lorry laden with liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders,  which landed on its side in the middle of the road.

The deceased has been identified as Johnny Mapang, the driver of the white Mitsubishi Triton vehicle.

He was pronounced dead by medical personnel upon arriving at the crash scene.

Meanwhile, four other victims from the other two vehicles; the driver of the three-tonne lorry and a family of three who were travelling in a Nissan Navara vehicle have been rushed to Miri Hospital for medical treatment.

A team of firemen from Batu Niah fire station, led by PBT II Rary Binjie, was deployed there at 10.01am upon receiving an alert on the incident to help extricate victims out from their vehicles.

According to Rary, who is also Batu Niah fire station chief, the operation ended at 10.25am.

However, the actual cause of the incident was not immediately known and investigations are underway.
