BAU: A man was found dead in a Chinese temple at Jalan Buso here last Tuesday afternoon.

Bau District Police chief, DSP Poge Nyaon said a male worshipper came across the body on the floor around 1pm.

The dead man was later identified as Liaw Poh Yong, 53, from Paku, Bau.

“The body was covered with flies and ants. It had no bruises or injuries that could be attributed to criminal elements,” he said in a statement.

 The police then contacted Paku Kapitan Phu Shak Sin, who revealed that the man had lived in Paku and Buso since 2016 and had no immediate family members or relatives.

Poge said the case, which had been classified as sudden and unattended death (SDR), was still under investigation.

In Padawan, the body of an elderly man was found in a ditch near his home in Kampung Haji Baki yesterday.

Padawan OCPD Supt Aidil Bolhassan said the body was found by the public, who reported to the police around 10.40am.

The deceased was later identified as Yusuf Sulaiman, 60.

“The victim’s sister said he was sitting near the ditch at about 11am on Tuesday in a drunken state,” Supt Aidil said in a statement.

According to family members, the victim was an alcoholic who often made a nuisance of himself when intoxicated.

The body was taken to the Sarawak General Hospital morgue for further action.
