SIBU: Marine police have seized a tanker with 10,000 litres of diesel worth RM152,000 during an operation codenamed ‘Ops Kontraban’ yesterday (Feb 16).

Sibu police chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili said a 34-year-old man was arrested for failing to produce documents or permits from the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) for possession of controlled goods.

“The suspect was picked from a warehouse at Jalan Ding Lik Kwong, here around 12pm.

“Police seized a tanker and three tanks with 10,000 litres of diesel in it.

“The seized items were handed over to KPDNHEP Sibu for further action,” he said.

The case is being investigated under the Control of Supplies Act 1961.

Individuals found guilty of violating the Control of Supplies Act 1961 may face a fine of up to RM1 million or a jail sentence for a term up to three years or both, while companies or organisations can be fined up to RM3 million.
