SIBU: A 38-year-old man was killed after his four-wheel drive (4WD) vehicle collided head-on with a lorry in Kapit on Saturday.

The deceased was identified as Collin Minggu from Rumah Lapek Sungai Yong, Kapit.

According to the State Fire and Rescue Department, the accident happened at about 5.30pm along the Siew Gin intersection.

At the time of the incident, the victim was heading from Kapit bazaar towards Bleteh while the lorry was travelling in the opposite direction.

“The collision happened when the 4WD made a sudden turn towards the direction of the lorry.

“The lorry driver,46, upon noticing the incoming vehicle, immediately hit the brakes to avoid the collision, but to no avail,” the statement said.

Collin succumbed to his injuries while his passenger aged 22, sustained minor injuries.

The occupants of the lorry, aged between 29 and 51, managed to escape unharmed.

The case is being investigated under Section 41 of the Road Transport Act 1987.
