KUCHING: Datuk Mancha Ata, formerly the Sarawak deputy police commissioner, has been appointed as the new Sarawak police commissioner.

He will be succeeding Datuk Mohd Azman Ahmad Sapri, who has been appointed as the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department director at Bukit Aman.

Mohd Azman took charge of the department after the retirement of the former Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department director at Bukit Aman Datuk Seri Mat Kasim Karim on September 29.

In the interim, the position of Sarawak deputy commissioner will be assumed by Datuk Ibrahim Darus, the chief assistant director of the E1 Special Branch at Bukit Aman.

Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) secretary Alzafny Ahmad stated in his announcement yesterday (Oct 13) that a total of 23 senior PDRM officers have been transferred to new positions and promoted.

He mentioned that these changes will take effect on November 13.
