KUCHING: Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah is happy more local films are being made in the state.

The Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister also encourages the making of more documentaries that promote the state and its people.

“We are moving forward and, of course, we need fresh faces and talents as well,” he said.

Abdul Karim spoke during a press conference to announce the upcoming Sarawak’s first IMEX Frankfurt Germany at Baitulmakmur II here yesterday (March 30).

The minister said there were many grants for those interested in producing local films.

“We, at the Ministry, welcomes anyone to participate in the industry and as long as they are movies or documentaries that reflect the community, we will always encourage the industry players,” he added.

Earlier, Malaysian actor Azhan Rani praised the Sarawak film industry for its continuous development, and urged fresh faces including, actors and those behind the scene in Sarawak to participate.

He added that the involvement of the new faces was crucial in making sure the film industry here would continue to develop, thus creating the next generation of great actors and filmmakers as well.

“Maybe after this, we can use creative labour from Sarawak fully 100 per cent and I believe this will give the space and career for those who are interested,” he added.
