KUCHING: Sarawakians aged 60 and above who have yet to apply for the Kenyalang Gold Card (KGC) need to do so as soon as possible.

“As of now, there are still more that 50 percent out of the 334,500 senior Sarawakians who have not applied for the KGC,” said Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Public Complaints Bureau (PCB) chief and Kota Sentosa SUPP chairman Wilfred Yap.

“KGC provides privileges and benefits, such as special discounts on services and rebates from KGC’s 56 strategic vendors in optical service, health service, reflexology, bus transportation, food outlets, pharmacy, retail, tailoring, and hair salon.

“KGC also offers compassionate assistance of RM3,000 to cover funeral expenses upon the death of cardholders, not covered by other parties,” he said in a statement issued by SUPP PCB today.

Yap said so far, SUPP PCB and Kota Sentosa SUPP had assisted more than 500 senior citizens to apply for the KGC.

He added that SUPP PCB and Kota Sentosa SUPP supports the Sarawak government, under Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), for the KGC initiative.

In this regard, he hoped that the state government would take the lead as the first in Malaysia to consider paying a modest and fixed RM200 monthly payment to all KGC holders through a portion of the five percent sales tax collected from Petroliam Nasional Berhad (Petronas).

Application forms can be obtained from welfare departments, Resident’s Offices, District and Sub-District Offices statewide, or apply online at kwkpk.sarawak.gov.my

The SUPP PCB can be reached at 016-779 7688 or the public can go directly to SUPP Head Office to request for assistance.
