BETONG: The people are urged to join the Sarawak government in achieving the vision of becoming a major exporter of food through land development, thus becoming a high-income state by 2030.

Betong assemblyman Gerald Rentap Jabu said the people need to be wise in utilising their lands to make a return.

“In 2030, Sarawak is targeted to become a high-income state and one of the ways to do this is through the agricultural sector which demands the people to maximise the use of existing land.

“We encourage agricultural activities including the use of the latest method to increase income sources.

“This is the opportunity rural folk should not miss because we still have a lot of land.

“But our attitude should change, and don’t just be an observer but be involved,” he said.

He said this when speaking at the Betong Division Gawai Dayak Dinner at the Tan Sri Datuk Amar Stephen Kalong Ningkan Sports Hall yesterday night.

He called on the people not to be easily influenced by things that are being spread in the social media, especially misinformation related to surveying of NCR land under Section 6.

“Whatever detractors are saying, Section Six will ensure owners will have absolute rights over their NCR land.

“The allegation that the government can seize land surveyed under Section 6 is inaccurate,” he said.

Rentap went on to remind the people to give their children’s education the priority.

“Education is a big investment because it seeks to change the pattern of life for the better.

“Likewise, racial unity must be maintained, and I am proud to say that Betong is a fine example of racial harmony.

“As a multi-racial and religious community, every one of us must have the spirit of understanding of other religions and cultures.

“With unity and harmony, the plans to implement development will be facilitated,” he said.
