KUCHING: KMC flat residents received food items from Kuching South City Council (MBKS) under its ‘Caring Society Programme’ for this year’s Chinese New Year (CNY).

MBKS have partnered with Tay Motors, Wide Way Food Enterprise Sdn Bhd and CCK Sdn Bhd to distribute the food items to 532 residents.

The programme is to instil and show kindness to the community in line with the government’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).

MBKS mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng said it is for this reason that the council is helping the poor in the flats.

“This kind of programme is helping the people build a better city. I think most of the companies are willing to contribute to the community. Without caring for each other, social bonds will be broken,” he said after handing out the food items.

He also wants to bring people together to celebrate CNY with their families.

“Everyone have the right to celebrate all the festive seasons and not only within our families, but also with others,” he said.

He urged everyone to play their respective roles to serve their communities and to contribute to them, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Let us all play our roles. It does not matter whether if you are doing small or big parts. I’m sure people are always happy to receive,” he said.

The mayor then thanked the companies who have sponsored the food items.

On the Covid-19 vaccine, he said that although it is coming, people cannot just do whatever they want without care.

“The vaccine is not the cure. Do not think that it will cure everything. It is not going to be like that,” he said.

He also reminded people to comply with the standard operating procedures (SOPs) set by the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) by wearing face masks, practising social-physical distancing and washing their hands often.

“Also, show some respect to our frontliners who have done so much for us to stop the chain of viral infections,” he said.
