KUCHING: The Kuching South City Council (MBKS) aims to ensure that the residents under its jurisdiction receive prompt and reliable services without any unnecessary delays.

Its mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng said the council will make significant efforts to streamline bureaucratic processes, reducing red tape by cutting off layers and making decisions more efficient.

“Our aim is to ensure that our residents receive prompt and reliable services without any unnecessary delays.

“To achieve this, we will set up a comprehensive internal tracking system for document processing. This will reduce the waiting period of any application with KPI to a maximum of 10 working days.

“We understand that waiting for approvals can be frustrating, and we are committed to delivering faster and more efficient services to our residents,” he said at the council swearing-in ceremony at the MBKS building here today (April 1).

Wee renewed his oath as the third-term mayor together with his deputy, Hilmy Othman, and 29 councillors, including 17 newly appointed for the 2023–2025 term.

Besides that, Wee said MBKS is committed to improving the traffic situation in the city.

“We will appoint more traffic wardens to handle traffic jams and also install smart traffic lights and CCTV to promote safety.

“This will go a long way in reducing congestion and ensuring that our roads are safe for all,” he said, adding that for the coming term, their focus will be on high-impact projects that provide economic, social, and environmental benefits such as eco-friendly construction and improved access roads to elevate the community’s standard of living.

In the meantime, Wee reminded the councillors that they shoulder the responsibility of making decisions that will directly impact the lives of community members.

“This task demands unwavering dedication, hard work, and humility. I implore you to consistently prioritise the needs and interests of the community as you fulfil your duties.

“Your actions will shape the future of our city, and it is imperative that you act with integrity, transparency, and accountability,” he said.
