KUCHING: It is hoped that political issues in Sabah and United Malay National Organisation (UMNO) will not seriously affect the federal government, says Datuk Peter Minos.

The political observer in a statement added that Malaysians right now just wanted stability and peace in the country’s politics.

“We thought that the recent Umno general meeting would ease the tension that is happening within the unity government.

“However, a few people were not happy when they found out that its president Datuk Ahmad Zahid Hamidi will not be contesting again, considering that he is also facing criminal charges,” he added.

As for what is happening in Sabah, he hoped that the current government under the leadership of Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Noor stay strong and resilient.

He also stated that he was happy and glad that the situation was different in Sarawak, as the government under the leadership of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg is at its steadiest moment, stable and peaceful.

“Sarawak is like a steady ship within the storm that is happening in Malaysia right now.”

He added that Sarawakians would always support Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) in keeping the peace and stability in the state’s politics.

“What matters now is that we should continue to focus more on our economic progress and the betterment of Sarawak and Malaysia as a whole.”
