MIRI: Mayor Adam Yii has commended the efforts by a group of volunteers who cleaned up the Lutong beach on Monday (Sept 13).

“This is a commendable initiative…creating public awareness about the need to look after the cleanliness of our beaches,” he said on Tuesday (Sept 14).

This came after Yii had expressed his dismay at the beaches here littered with rubbish, including discarded bandages, bottles and face masks.

“Our city is not short of civic-minded people as there are many volunteers with their own initiatives who have carried out cleaning and clearing of litter along the beachfronts,” he said, adding that Lutong beach is one of the popular beaches frequently patronised by locals.

Yii pointed out that netizens had also expressed their frustrations on social media regarding the issue.

As such, he urged frequent beach-goers not to throw rubbish indiscriminately but to dispose of waste properly.
