MIRI: Miri Vocational School came first and second in the secondary category of a 5R (Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Repurpose) contest.

Mayor Adam Yii officiated at the prize presentation ceremony held at Boulevard Hypermarket, Jalan Miri-Pujut here yesterday.

SMK Chung Hua Miri came in third.

In the primary school category, SK Senadin was placed first, SJKC Chung San Riam second and  SJKC Chung Hua Pujut third.

About 20 secondary and primary schools in Miri took part in the contest initiated by Miri City Council (MCC) under its LA (Local Agenda) 21. It aimed to promote recycling and reuse of materials, emphasising creativity and innovation.

In the contest, students constructed various shapes of their ‘Superhero’ replicas using recycled materials.

Yii said the contest could inspire students to reuse trash to build something useful.
