DARO: The construction of the one kilometre-long missing link road from Kampung Penuai to Jalan Ladang at Pulau Bruit here has been completed ahead of schedule.

In a news report by the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS), Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Office (Corporate Affairs, Information and UKAS) Datuk Abdullah Saidol said the Rural Transformation Project (RTP), costing RM2.599 million, was supposed to have been completed in June this year but the contractor was able to complete it six months earlier than originally expected.

Abdullah, who is Semop assemblyman, said the road is important to connect seven villages in the northern area of Pulau Bruit to the completed farm road.

“Alhamdullillah, today we witnessed the handing over of a completed project from the Public Works Department (PWD), consisting of the missing link road that connects the northern road, the old road at Pulau Bruit to the farm road with a stretch of one kilometre costing RM2.599 million. And this cost does not include the compensation cost.

“This project was supposed to be completed in June this year but the contractor was able to build it faster, six months earlier, completing it in December last year,” he told the media at the handover ceremony of the completed RTP project in Kampung Penuai, Pulau Bruit yesterday .

He said PWD had also informed him about the planning and implementation schedule for the construction of the four new two-way concrete bridges to replace the four one-way bridges that connect the main road in the north of Pulau Bruit.

The project will cost RM20 million.

“I request that the project be expedited so that it can be implemented this year because I understand that the implementation of this bridge takes two years, but I hope it can be implemented even faster,” he said.

Abdullah also hoped that the federal government will maintain the road construction project that connects Pulau Bruit to Sungai Nai in the next Malaysia Plan (RMK).

He said that the allocation for the project was approved by the previous government.

At the same programme, Abdullah was also briefed by PWD on the implementation of the new Pulau Bruit community hall which can take in 1,000 people. The hall costs RM8.3 million.
