Mooncake Festival to return in September

KUCHING: The Kuching Inter-Cultural Mooncake Festival will return for its 17th instalment on September 17 to 24, 2018 at Carpenter Street here.

This yearly event is hosted by the Federation of Kuching Division Community Associations and the Old Market Community Association.

The organising chairman, Sim Kiang Chiok said that the festival’s organising committee have been working tirelessly and ready to receive applicants for the yearly Lantern Making Competition which would be held at the Plaza Merdeka Shopping Mall on September 17, 2018.

Each entry will be displayed throughout the eight-day celebration for public viewing as well as to show appreciation.
“The competition is open to all nationalities, associations and schools. Participants can take part individually or in group.

“We have seen various creative lanterns in the past and we hope to see more creative designs this year. We are proud to have participants from all walks of life and hope to continue this trend.

“Closing date for registration is September 15, 2018. Participants must submit their lanterns to the Plaza Merdeka Shopping Mall before 7pm on September 17 and entries will be reviewed on the same day at 8pm. The announcement of results and presentation of awards will be held on September 24 at the event’s main stage,” said Sim.

The winner of the competition will receive RM800, first runner-up will receive RM600, second runner-up (RM400) and five consolation prizes worth RM200 each.
