SARATOK: Many agricultural infrastructures are planned to be developed under the Betong Divisional Development Agency (BDDA) to help boost the sector in Kalaka state constituency.

Kalaka assemblyman Mohamad Duri said there are still many issues related to agricultural infrastructure that need to be addressed.

He did not deny the problems faced by the residents, especially the farmers.

“But we are grateful that because of the existence of BDDA, many agricultural issues, especially infrastructure ones, will be resolved.

“Now several projects related to agricultural infrastructure will be implemented to help boost the sector,” he said.

He said this during a meeting with the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID), Betong Division and representatives of residents here, yesterday.

Mohamad explained that the priority focus was now on improving the socioeconomics of the populace through the agricultural sector.

“This is one of the efforts to encourage youth involvement in agriculture, especially modern agriculture.

“Therefore, special attention is given to areas affected by stagnant water, as a result of damaged sluice gates as well as roads in agricultural areas that need to be upgraded.

“Finally, to create comfort for the local community to earn a living,” he said.

Mohamad stressed that residents should not be hesitant to channel information about problems related to agriculture.

“My commitment is that any report received will be discussed with the relevant agencies.

“For example, for the Sungai Rembus area in Pagan, it was discussed together with the Kalaka Saribas Betong Integrated Agricultural Development Area (IADA) and DID.

“Even recently, I had a four-point meeting with the residents and Betong Division DID to identify a long-term solution related to upgrading the sluice gates and building new sluice gates to avoid stagnant water during heavy rains and high tides,” he added.
