Dr Sim (front row, right) introduces Eric Tay (front row, left) as the party’s candidate for Bandar Kuching during the SUPP Mobilsation Night.

KUCHING: Men fear getting into the wrong line of business, women fear marrying the wrong man. So choose wisely.

GPS-SUPP candidate Eric Tay Tze Kok quoted this old Chinese proverb as he drummed up support for his campaign to drive opposition DAP out of the Bandar Kuching seat in the forthcoming election.

Tay is facing DAP incumbent Dr Kelvin Yii who won the seat with a thumping majority of 35,973 in a straight fight against Kho Teck Wan of SUPP in the last general election.

Nevertheless Tay remains upbeat, saying it is time to show DAP the door so that more development could be implemented at the constituency which has been an opposition stronghold.

“For many years, there is no change. Let us (GPS) make the change,” he said.

He made the call at the Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Mobilisation Night at the party headquarters on yesterday (Nov 5) evening which was officiated by the party’s president and Deputy Premier Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian.

“Sarawak under GPS has strong leadership and the financial capabilities to bring more development to the state including caring for the welfare of the people.

“Hence, this election, your vote is very important. We must ensure that not only we win Bandar Kuching but all 31 seats,” he said.

GPS, Tay stressed, must capture all the 31 seats so that there is a strong representation from Sarawak in parliament.

“If we don’t win the 31 seats, if there is no strong mandate, how are we going to negotiate with the federal government on Sarawak rights under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63)?.

“Therefore, I hope all of you here will go and tell your families and friends to come out in full force and vote for GPS,” he said.

In the last general election, Democratic Action Party’s (DAP) Bandar Kuching incumbent Dr Kelvin Yii won the seat in a straight fight against Kho Teck Wan of SUPP with a 35,973 majority.
