SIBU: The RM500,000 second phase car park extension project at Sibu Hospital is now completed and open to the public.

Sibu MP Oscar Ling Chai Yew said the hospital now has an additional 118 parking bays.

“I hope this new parking space can help ease parking woes at Sibu Hospital,” he told a press conference in conjunction with the launching of the parking bays at the hospital today.

Ling said though the lack of parking space at the hospital is not a new issue, the government is trying its best to upgrade facilities at the hospital, including parking bays.

“We will try to improve other facilities in the hospital. The federal government also plans to upgrade Sibu Hospital into a regional hospital.

“Of course, we cannot do it overnight. So, now we are trying to upgrade the facilities phase by phase,” he said.

Previously, there were 682 existing parking bays in the hospital, whereby 400 were reserved for hospital staff and the rest for the public.

With the completion of the first phase of the project in 2019, the hospital had an additional 125 parking bays.

However, due to the high demand and complaints from the public, the second phase of the project commenced in April this year and was completed in August.

With the completion of Phase Two, the hospital now boasts a total of 925 parking lots where more than 30 per cent of them are reserved for the hospital staff.
