DARO: A family of nine was left devastated with only clothes on their backs after their single-storey house in Kampung Nanga Besar was razed to the ground in a pre-dawn fire this morning.

Fortunately, all of them aged between nine months old and 69, escaped injuries as they managed to evacuate to safety in the 5.20 am incident.

A spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said firemen from Daro station were promptly dispatched to the scene after receiving an emergency call.

Upon arrival, they found that the fire was still raging and the house was about 70 per cent destroyed.

The firefighters sourced water from a large ditch, about 30 feet away from the scene, to prevent the fire from spreading to the adjacent houses.

The cause of the fire and losses incurred are still under investigation.

Also involved in the extinguishing operation which was  completed at 7.19 am were Daro auxiliary firefighters, Daro police, Sarawak Energy Berhad and the village’s Security and Development Committee (JKKK).
