THE Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts is set to formulate a state policy tool.

Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said the tool will integrate ecotourism in rural community-based tourism areas with agrotourism and geotourism.

This, he said, will foster economic synergy and expand markets for local products.

“Arising from a recent Sarawak Agrotourism Conference and Expo in August 2023, the ministry plans to collaborate with stakeholders to formulate a state policy tool.

“This tool aims to integrate ecotourism in rural community-based tourism areas with sectors like agrotourism, geotourism, and agroforestry tourism.

“The goal is to create mutually supportive linkages, reduce financial leakages, and provide expanded tourist markets for local produce and ecotourism products,” he said  during his ministry’s winding-up speech in the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) today.

Additionally, Abdul Karim said his ministry plans to develop geotrails within the Sarawak Delta Geopark (SDGp) sites.

Aligned with Sarawak’s UNESCO Global Geopark aspirations, he assured that Geotrails will be established in key SDGp geosites at Santubong, Padawan, Bau and Bako.

“These trails aim to support education, conservation, tourism and community development,” he added.
