BETONG: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is hoped to reconsider the decision to maintain at least RM3.8 million as before.

Betong MP Dr Richard Rapu said if it was difficult to increase, at least the amount could be maintained as before.

“In other words, we expect it to be revised according to current needs.

“Because in the face of economic constraints, the government can look to reduce other expenses…reduce leakages, and find other sources to increase national income such as taxes and not by cutting parliamentarians’ development allocations,” he said on Tuesday (Feb 7).

He admitted that he agreed with the government’s decision due to the country’s economic constraints even though he felt aggrieved.

Meanwhile, Lubok Antu MP Roy Angau Gingkoi admitted that a large allocation was necessary.

“I believe larger allocations are important in helping the people more efficiently considering the direct channel without the need for a process, not to mention the large parliamentary constituency in Sarawak…there are two or three constituencies for one parliamentary constituency.

“Especially in the countryside and like my own area has almost 400 longhouses.

“Therefore, I hope that this allocation (RM1.3 million) will be reviewed from time to time with the hope that it will be increased,” he said.
