Multiple families lose homes in blazes in Bintulu and Sebuyau

The fire is currently at its peak at Jalan Masjid Kampung Sebuyau in Sebuyau on early Sunday morning.

KUCHING: A devastating series of fires has left twenty-five individuals from seven families homeless, as their houses were engulfed by flames at separate locations in recent incidents.

Miraculously, no injuries or casualties were reported during the blazes, which occurred at 2.05 pm and 12.15 am.

According to a spokesperson for the Fire and Rescue Department, these incidents took place in Bintulu on Saturday and in Sebuyau early this morning.

The first incident involved five terrace houses along Jalan Abang Yusuf in Tanjung Kidurong, Bintulu. Prompt response by firemen from Kidurong and Bintulu stations was instrumental in tackling the emergency after they received the distress call at approximately 2.05 pm. Upon their arrival, they discovered that the single-storey houses had been completely destroyed and swiftly initiated the extinguishing operation.

The fire was successfully brought under control at around 5.15 pm, and our firemen concluded the extinguishing operation by 6.30 pm.

In the aftermath of the incident, no temporary evacuation centre was established as all nineteen tenants found temporary accommodation with their relatives.

Meanwhile, the second incident involved two houses located along Jalan Masjid Kampung Sebuyau in Sebuyau. Firemen from Simunjan station, located approximately 64 km away, were dispatched to the scene after receiving an emergency call at around 12.15 am. The fire was raging upon their arrival, prompting an immediate response to extinguish the flames.

After an arduous effort, they managed to bring the flames under control by 1.30 am, and the extinguishing operation was concluded by 3.45 am.

Currently, six residents from the two houses affected by the blaze are seeking temporary shelter with their relatives.

Authorities are conducting investigations to determine the cause of the fires and to assess the extent of the losses incurred in both cases.
