New hotel to boost Marudi’s economy

MIRI: The construction of Marudi’s new landmark, a three-star accommodation will definitely transform the town once it is completed in 2026, says Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) general manager Datuk Abdul Hadi Abdul Kadir.

“It will be one of the crucial pillars of the transformation of Marudi town to increase economic activity and diversify its economic resources as well as create employment opportunities for the local population,” he pointed out at the symbolic earth-breaking ceremony held at Marudi Civic Centre today.

The ceremony was officiated by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

Abdul Hadi added the new hotel, with its name yet to be decided, is located on the present site of the old Marudi Rest House facing the Civic Centre.

This strategic location is adjacent to the Marudi Airport as well as Fort Hose which is part of the history of Marudi in Sarawak.

The architecture of the new hotel will combine modern elements with a touch of traditional motifs and carvings of local ethnic groups such as the Orang Ulu with the aim of promoting and preserving local heritage.

The three-star hotel will have 90 rooms consisting of superior rooms, family rooms and suites that can cater up to 500 people.

Also present at the event were Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, his deputy Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew, Deputy Minister in the Premier of Sarawak’s Department (Labour ,Immigration and Project Monitoring) Datuk Gerawat Gala, Baram MP Datuk Anyie Ngau, Telang Usan assemblyman Dennis Ngau and former Minister of Education, Science and Technological Research Datuk Amar Michael Manyin Jawong.
