MIRI: A new Health Clinic next to the existing Miri Hospital has been physically completed and is expected to be operational in June this year.

Deputy Health Minister Lukanisman Awang Sauni said, the authorities were currently conducting final inspection, testing and commissioning of the clinic.

Construction work on the RM26.3 million government clinic began in July, 2019.

“With the completion of this clinic, we hope that it would be sufficient to cater to the needs of Miri city’s population,” said Lukanisman in a press conference after conducting a working visit to the clinic today.

Lukanisman noted that the new health clinic could treat up to 800 outpatients per day.

He said some 300 staff from other clinics would be re-assigned to the new facility.

Initially, the construction of the new health clinic was to replace the existing Miri Polyclinic at Jalan Merbau which is unable to cater to the needs of Miri city’s population.

“The operation of the old clinic will continue for now, until there are other plans in the future,” he said.

Meanwhile, the maternity and child health clinic in Tanjong Lobang, will be re-located to the new health clinic, once it starts operation in June this year.

Lukanisman was accompanied by Minister of Transport Sarawak Datuk Sri Lee Kim Shin, Deputy Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts I Datuk Sebastian Ting, Miri MP Chiew Choon Man and Miri Hospital’s director Dr Jack Wong during the visit.
