KUCHING: The infamous traffic congestion along Jalan Sebor, that is between Tanah Puteh Health Clinic and SJK Chung Hua Pending, will be alleviated with a new road which will be constructed soon.

Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng said the new road, Jalan Datuk Abang Abdul Rahim-Jalan Kwong Lee Bank, will be constructed through state land Lot 9112, Section 64, KTLD.

The RM8 million project funded through state allocation approved under the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP)  is expected to take 12 months to complete.

Phase 2 of the project will provide the much-needed relief from traffic congestion and offer an alternative route for commuters.

“It is an undeniable fact that this area is heavily congested. Some of us will use this road to go to Pending or Bintawa area, go to the Tun Salahuddin bridge and to the Tanah Puteh health clinic.

“We hope that the project  will be able to ease all of the traffic congestion.

“The project  will also include the fixing of the hole at the Jalan Kwong Lee Bank,” he said when met by reporters at Jalan Datuk Abang Abdul Rahim this morning.

Wee also appealed to the public to bear with them as any construction project will create some inconvenience for them.

The project is being managed MBKS as the implementing agency, Juruukur Bahan Tema Sdn Bhd as the quantity surveyor, Jurukon Malaysia as the land surveyor, TMK Construction and Transport Sdn Bhd as the contractor, and Jurutera Bersatu Sdn Bhd as the civil and structural consultant.

Phase 1 of the project was completed in 2019 which widened Jalan Datuk Abang Abdul Rahim from two lanes to four lanes with a central median, spanning 1.2km.
