KUCHING: A Tabika Kemas, the construction of which was long delayed by the Covid-19 pandemic, has finally opened its doors to children aged four to six.

Construction of the facility at Kampung Merdang Lumut began in 2018 and was eventually completed at a cost of RM488,589.50.

Batang Sadong MP Rodiyah Sapiee who represented Deputy Minister of Rural and Regional Development cum Kota Samarahan MP, Datuk Rubiah Wang, said it replaced the temporary building in the community hall that had been in operation in Merdang Lumut for a long time.

“It can now operate by accommodating up to 25 students in each session,” she said, expressing gratitude to the Public Works Department (PWD), for bringing about a more conducive new Tabika building for children.

“The construction of the new Tabika Merdang Lumut building is one of the government’s efforts and commitments through the ministry to provide early childhood education access in rural and remote areas,” she added.
