SARIKEI: Efforts are underway to build a new wharf in Sungai Nyelong here for the unloading of building materials.
Repok assemblyman Datuk Seri Huang Tiong Sii said that the existing wharf was old and not economical to maintain anymore.
“As briefed by the Public Works Department (PWD) Sarikei Divisional engineer, Toh Chee Leong, the RC Coastal Wharf in Sungai Nyelong was built more than 40 years ago.
“Besides that, many of the poles are damaged,” he said.
After the briefing by Toh, Huang immediately contacted Transport Minister Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin and asked him to look into the matter.
Meanwhile, a Sarikei Truck Association representative was also present to listen to the briefing by Toh and to understand the extent of damage to the wharf.
