KUCHING: A total of 15 cases of robbery at 24-hour convenience stores reported this year have been resolved by the a special unit of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Sarawak Police Contingent Headquarters (IPK) with the arrest of a suspect.
State CID head, Datuk S. Dev Kumar, said the 15 cases include 13 that happened around the city and another two in Padawan, committed by the same group.
“The team has been activated to track down the suspects involved after the first case on January 1 up till now.
“The suspects consisted of one or two people wearing helmets, armed with machete or knife who robbed cash at the convenience store before escaping with a motorcycle between 1 and 6 am.
“As a result of the effort and investigation,the Serious Crime Unit (D9) IPK headed by Inspector Zaidi Sawawi arrested one of the suspects, at his home in Taman Malihah, Jalan Matang, Kuching on April 16,” he said.
Dev said this in a press statement yesterday. According to him, the special unit is still tracking down another suspect, Mohd. Hisham Meran, 24, whos address is No. 171A, Lorong 6E, Taman Malihah, Jalan Matang, Kuching.
“Members of the public who have information about Mohd Hisham are urged to contact the nearest police station.
“With the arrest of one of the suspects, the police are confident of solving 15 robbery cases reported this year and congratulations to the special unit who have worked hard for almost four months to solve it,” he explained.
