220 partake in dart championship

KUCHING: Around 220 participants took part in the three-day Kuching City Open 2018 Darts Championship organised by the Kuching North City Commission (DBKU), which was held at the Hills Shopping Mall, yesterday. 

The championship held for the third time saw participations from international and local teams where they are from Philippine, Brunei, Perak, Selangor, Johor Bahru, Sabah, Sibu, Miri, Bintulu, Sri Aman and Padawan. 

Present to officiate the event was the Chief Minister’s wife Datin Patinggi Dato Hajjah Juma’ani Tun Tuanku Hahi Bujang.

In his remark, DBKU Mayor Datuk Haji Abang Abdul Wahap Haji Abang Julai said the event had seen an increasing number of participations each year.

“This year indeed was an overwhelming response, therefore we hope to see the event grow bigger in the future,” he said. 

He then said by seeing many interest from the darts players, DBKU is planning to work with the State Tourism Ministry in making dart as a sport tourism, and also make Kuching as one of the destination to hold the championship.

“Through event like this, dart players are also able to learn from different players and improve their skills,” said Wahap.

He added dart players are also able to foster relationship among each other.

Meanwhile, the 54 teams (each team 4 person) competed in 7 categories namely Team Event, Second Chance Event, Men Single Open, Ladies Single Open, and Ladies Double Open.

There was also a VVIP category which was participated by Dati Patinggi Dato Hajjah Juma’ani Tun Tuanku Hahi Bujang and members from the Association of Wives of Ministers and Assistant Ministers of Sarawak (Sabati).
