KUCHING: A delegation from the Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA) paid a courtesy call on Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg in his office at Wisma Bapa Malaysia here, yesterday.
The objective of the visit was to brief Abang Johari on Matta’s initiatives and activities.
According to Matta president, Datuk KL Tan, the chief minister was briefed on Matta’s current activities and promotions relating to tourism this year and next year.
“Our briefing touched on the setting up of a technology solution platform where we invite tour agent operators to join the platform to improve their digital economy marketing.
“Secondly, it is about our marketing activities. Matta would like to encourage tour and travel agent operators in Sarawak to participate in our missions to China and India. Twenty-nine of our members recently went to Berlin, Germany and other Asian countries,” said Tan when interviewed by the media after the courtesy call.
Tan also noted that next year, Malaysia will become the preferred destination for countries in Europe.
“Sarawak and Sabah have many nature-based tourism attractions which are very good for tourists from Europe. We can start promoting them to attract more tourists to come to Borneo.
“Next year, we will also organise our annual National Matta Fair at Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC), Kuala Lumpur where we are looking for collaboration from Sabah and Sarawak and to suggest Borneo as the preferred domestic destination for Malaysia.
“This kind of initiatives will definitely boost our tourism industry especially for Sabah and Sarawak,” he pointed out.
