MIRI: A proposal for the new remuneration system for civil servants will be submitted to the government end of this year, said the President of Congress of Unions of Employees in the Public and Civil Services (Cuepacs) Datuk Azih Muda.

“As we are heading towards the year 2020 (new era), it is about time that the old system which has been in use since 2002 (16 years) should be revised to make it more relevant, we (Cuepacs) are currently gathering inputs for the proposal before we submit it to the present government,” said Azih during a press conference after attending a briefing session on pre-retirement to more than 300 civil servants at a leading hotel here yesterday.

The briefing session was jointly organised by the Retirement Fund Inc (KWAP) and Cuepacs. Also present was the Secretary-General of Cuepacs, Adnan Mat. Azih said that the proposal would provide a clear path for career development for civil servants which include salary based on academic qualification and on improving retirees’ welfare.

On another note, Cuepacs is urging the present Federal government to reconsider the proposal by the previous government to close down nine Teacher’s Training Institute (IPG) campuses in the country.

“The function of the institutions are still relevant, we will bring the matter to Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad,” he stressed.

Meanwhile, on the abolishment of National Service Training Programme (PLKN) and National Civics Bureau (BTN), Azih expressed his gratitute to the present government for not terminating civil servants attached to the agencies and absorbing them under the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
