Director of Foreign Office calls on CM

KUCHING: Director of the Sarawak Regional Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Deddy Faisal Ahmad Salleh paid a courtesy call on Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi (Dr) Abang Johari Tun Openg in the latter’s office at State Legislative Assembly Building in Petra Jaya here, yesterday.

Met by the media after the courtesy call, Deddy disclosed that the courtesy call on the Chief Minister was to explain to him on the roles and functions of the Sarawak Regional Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“Basically, our role is on protocol matters. We assist the State Government on protocol matters involving visits from overseas. The courtesy call is basically to inform YAB Chief Minister on our roles and functions,” he said.

Deddy also disclosed that there were some ambassadors who recently received their credentials from the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and some of them will be paying courtesy calls on the Head of State (TYT) and Chief Minister.

“We have an ambassador from Sarawak who will be heading one of our missions. He is from Bau. Once we have the date we will arrange for him to make a courtesy call on our leaders in Sarawak,” he said.

The Foreign Ministry’s Regional Office in Sarawak was established in 2011.

“My predecessor has a very good relationship with the State Government so my role is to continue the good relationship with the State,” Deddy concluded.
