KUCHING : Despite sleeping for about four hours daily for the last few weeks, the Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate from Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) for the Bandar Kuching parliamentary seat, Kho Teck Wan, 41, still managed to look fresh as she smiled and shook hands with the hawkers at the Kenyalang Park wet market yesterday morning. Clad in her signature Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) yellow shirt, Kho began hitting the campaign trail as early as 6.30 am.

She was at the wet markets in Bintawa and Sg. Apong and the Foochow Market before appearing at Kenyalang Park. Stopping for a short breather, Kho said she remained positive despite being at the Opposition stronghold of Kenyalang Park.

For the past few weeks, her daily routine began at 6.00 am with the walkabout. There would be press conferences and public talks before she ended her day with a home party for small groups of people. Kho yesterday said she was not put off by the hot weather because she drank plenty of water and her team was a big help to her.

Admitting that social campaigning was a must these days, Kho said there were still many senior voters who were not IT savvy. That was why she was still meeting the voters face to face.

“It is more strenuous but rewarding,” she added. “Along the way, many will still tell me about their problems.” As a Kuching City South Councillor, Kho has been working hard to serve the people. So it is not difficult for her to tackle the people’s problems and issues. Urging the people to give their votes to her, Kho vowed to build a stronger economy for Kuching, ensure a flood –free city, promote urban renewal in the city, boost Bandar Kuching as a Digital Hub, set up education funds for needy students and implement health programmes.

Her programme yesterday included more walkabouts at Aeon Mall Kuching, a public talk at Siang Siang at Mile 3 and a home gathering at Surau Darul Akhirat, Lumba Kuda. She added that she would try to reply messages sent to her through the social media before knocking off at about 2.00 am. Kho is a newbie.

She is facing a newbie from Democratic Action party (DAP), Dr. Kevin Yii. In the last Parliamentary election, Tan Kai, Kho’s cousin, lost to DAP’s Chong Chieng Jen who won with a majority of 19,642 votes. In the forthcoming GE14, Chong has left the safe seat of Kuching to stand in Stampin. He is involved in a straight fight with SUPP President, Datuk Dr. Sim Kui Hian who is also the State Minister for Local Government and Housing.
