KUCHING: The police have arrested a man who claimed to have accidentally shot dead a fellow hunter in the Sg Engkelut jungle in Pakan, Sarikei on Sunday after mistaking him for a wild boar.

State Criminal Investigation (CID) Chief, SAC Dennis Leong Soon Kuai said yesterday that a report was lodged at Julau Police Station at 5.15pm on Sunday by a 36-year-old man claiming to have shot his hunting partner.

Investigation revealed that on Sunday morning, the pair had gone hunting in the jungle in Sg. Engkelut, Pakan. They split up to cover more grounds. They were supposed to meet at a spot in Sg. Kauh.

However, around noon, the hunter fired a shot with his firearm at what he thought was a wild boar. Upon closer inspection, he found that he had actually shot his hunting partner instead.

With the help of nearby villagers, the lifeless body of the hunting partner was brought to a nearby longhouse. He then lodged a police report.
