MIRI: A 56-year-old man from Beluru, Bakong managed to escape with his life after being attacked by a crocodile at Sungai Bakong on Sunday afternoon.

The attack occurred at around 2pm when he was on a fishing trip with five friends.

“I was standing on the riverbank, pulling the fishing net, when it bit my right leg and dragged me into the water,” the victim, Mangku Sulo said when met at Miri Hospital yesterday, showing the 12 cm long wound on his leg.

“The croc dragged me about two metres away from the riverbank. It eventually let me go after a few minutes of struggle. I managed to poke its eyes,” he added.

He managed to swim back to the riverbank despite his leg injury and was rushed to Miri Hospital by his friends.

“It all happened very fast. We could not do anything. We kept shouting, hoping that the reptile would let him go,” one of his friends said.
