KUCHING: The Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO) has returned to Sarawak in conjunction with its 20th anniversary celebration.

This marked the orchestra’s fourth tour to East Malaysia and Sarawak as they played at the State Legislative Assembly building here on Wednesday night.

The main highlight of the concert was Tchaikovsky’s ‘Piano Concerto No. 1’ which was a collaboration between the MPO and Tengku Irfan on the piano, a 19-year-old local musical prodigy.

Guests were also serenaded with other timeless pieces such as excerpts from Bizet’s ‘Carmen’ and ‘L’Arlésienne’ and ‘Getaran Jiwa’ from the late Tan Sri P. Ramlee.

In attendance that night were State Legislative Assembly Speaker Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar and several ministers from the State Cabinet.
