KUCHING: The much-anticipated Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) triennial general assembly (TGA) on Jan 12 next year will be a tame affair after all.

This followed a decision made during the party’s supreme council meeting on Sunday at PDP Bintulu service centre. The next TGA will be held at Bintulu Civic Centre. Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg is expected to officiate at its opening.

Prior to the last Sunday’s supreme council meeting, talks were rife that the party would witness hot contests for several key posts including that of deputy presidents and vice presidents, to name a few.

In fact several names have been nominated by the various divisions during their respective annual general meetings to contest some of the party’s key posts starting from deputy president to vice presidents and exco members. However all these have changed.

The only thing that remained unchanged is that the five-term Bintulu MP Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing would be continually retained as the party president. This was unanimously agreed to at the meeting.

According to a press statement by PDP, all the supreme council members unanimously agreed that the party would continue to be led by Tiong.

The meeting also saw a “swap” of sorts between the positions of deputy president and that of the secretary-general.

With the “swap” former Mas Gading MP Datuk Anthony Nogeh is now the party’s new deputy president while Datuk Nelson Balang Rining takes up the secretary general’s post.

Datuk Paul Igai and Baram MP Anyi Ngau were appointed as senior vice-president while Tasik Biru assemblyman Datuk Henry Harry Jinep, Roland Duat Jubin (Meluan) and Datuk Dr Penguang Manggil (Marudi) were appointed as vice presidents.
