Procession attracts over 1,000 participants

KUCHING: Twenty-nine contingents comprising more than 1,000 people from all walks of life took part in a Prophet Mohammad’s Bi r thday pro c essi on h eld at Kampung Bandarsah here, yesterday. It was organised by Pertubuhan Anak Seni Bandarsah Kuching (PASBK) and the Main Committee of Masjid Darul Hana Patingan. The procession was flagged off by PASBK committee advisor, Datuk Abang Abdul Karim Tun Openg. Also present was PASBK chairman, Abdul Rahman Zainudin.

“Congratulations to PASBK and others involved in organising this event. The people participation in today’s procession from all walks of life and backgrounds mark the uniqueness of Sarawak from others.

“To maintain this uniqueness Sarawakian must be ready for the challenges and threats from both inside and outside the nation,” Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg said whose text of speech was delivered by Karim.

“This celebration is not only to portray the love towards Him but also a platform to share our minds and hearts to love peace, happiness and wellbeing. “Prophet Muhammad SAW through His teachings was a great example an even became a model of unity for the people,” he said. The procession also featured competitions for the Best Banner (open and school categories) and Best Costume Contingent.

The winner of the Best Banner in the open category was Kpg Bintangor Besar which brought home RM1,000 while in second place was MACMA Sarawak Branch which won RM500. In third place was AKY BMS which won RM300.

For the school category, the first place winner was SK Merpati Jepang which took home RM800 while in second place was SK St Mary which won RM400. In third place was SMK St Thomas which won RM200. The Best Costume Contingent was won a Hadrah troupe of Kpg Bintangor Besar which took home RM500. The procession covered a distance of 4.5kms which started from the Bandarsah Mosque.
